New threshold April 2025 for mandatory VAT registration in Bulgaria
From April 1, 2025, the obligation to register under the VAT Act is reduced from BGN 166,000 to BGN 100,000.
This applies to persons established in Bulgaria. They must have reached a taxable turnover of BGN 100,000 or more in the last 12 consecutive months.
The new threshold is used to determine taxable turnover. This applies for both mandatory registration and deregistration purposes.
Persons registered with a taxable turnover below BGN 100,000 as of April 1, 2025, who wish to remain registered, do not need to submit a deregistration application.
Previously, the threshold was BGN 166,000 from January 1, 2025. It applied only for three months.
